Episode 52: Diet, Hormones, and the Thyroid Connection with Dr. Dana Gibbs

Dr. Gibbs is an educator, a hormone expert, and a board-certified ENT and allergist. Dr. Gibbs attended medical school in San Antonio (Texas) and trained in otolaryngology at the University of Kansas. Her experience of ill health during her teens to her late thirties led to profound changes in the way she practices medicine. After spending those years unrecognized, dismissed, and told that it was all in her head, she found mentors in the integrative medicine world who helped her find the answers and solutions to her problems. These answers now inform her practice and educational efforts.

She recently retired from her ENT practice and opened Consultants in Metabolism, a direct care practice for thyroid, metabolic, and hormone management for women and men. The practice is located in North Texas and offers live and virtual visits.

In this episode, you will learn about thyroid health, hormone health, why Dr. Gibbs finds that using an integrative approach works much better for her patients, how restrictive diets can both help and hinder those with autoimmune conditions, how the hormonal aspect ties into dietary choices and overall well-being, and how you can help to regain your energy.

If you are someone dealing with or interested in autoimmunity, this episode is for you. Dr. Gibbs offers valuable insights and practical advice for managing these complex conditions with a holistic approach, grounded in both personal experience and professional expertise.

If you start by saying to patients that they need to eat healthier, what happens is that a lot of patients just give up because they literally don’t have the energy to go there. And so you gotta give them a win, and that’s why we start with the cortisol and then we move on to the thyroid.
